Finding Miniature Goats For Sale

By Essie Osborn

Looking for a really cute and unusual pet? Miniature goats for sale in your area might be the answer. These animals can be found by locating breeders or looking for someone who has had goat babies and needs to find homes for them.

Of course, the classified ads in local newspapers are very helpful. By checking local listings, you won't end up finding goats in another state. Online listings are good, as well. You can search the internet by zip code, in order to find animals that are near enough to make buying them feasible.

If you want a reputable breeder, the internet is a good resource. Buying from a breeder means that the goat you get as a baby will not turn out to be of mixed parentage. Those who want a mini won't be happy if the animal grows to a far greater size because one parent was a full-size goat. Having papers on the animal or at least seeing both parents can help avoid this kind of unpleasant surprise.

People buy these mini-farm animals as pets. They are extremely cute, very social, like to be around people, and are easy to care for. They don't need a lot of space. A big dog house or small shed is fine for housing, or even a corner of the garage. They need protection from dogs and weather. A backyard is big enough, and you can take them for walks on a leash.

Children need to be taught a few safety rules, since even minis often have horns and can butt pretty hard. It's never a good idea to grab a goat by the horns; this teaches them to use their head against people as they would with other animals in their herd. Any animal should learn to respect people.

Some of the problems with these charming little animals are feeding and confinement. A mini loves to eat, and it's easy to allow them to get overweight. Many times these little animals get almost as wide as they are tall. It's important for their health to keep them at an ideal weight by resisting the urge to feed them more than they need.

You will need to restrict their access to your yard and garden if you value your plants and trees. They love to eat all kinds of brush - like scrub bushes and trees but also rosebushes, fruit trees, and garden vegetables. You can tie them to a long chain that allows them to reach only what you want them to, as long as dogs can't bother them.

The other reason is that the little darlings love to get on top of cars (or anything else they can jump up on). Their pointy little hooves can do a real job on the paint of your cars or, worse, those that belong to friends and neighbors. However, with a few rules on both sides, a mini goat can be a really great addition to the family.
