Find Out What To Look For Prior To Deciding On A Pet Boarding Service

By Cathy Tower

Pets especially dogs can be a mans best friend and as such it is good to get them the best boarding facility when you might be away. Pet boarding has been taken as a profession and therefore you can be sure that your pet will be in safe hands when you are in that business trip or vacation. You actually owe it to your pet to get quality services when you are away.

The service provider must ensure that the pet is well looked after, fed, bathed and groomed for a moderate fee. It is your responsibility to make sure you have left your beloved pet at the hand of professionals who will make it happy for the maximum days you will be away for vacation or even for business meetings.

You should also make sure that the service provider you narrow down into has relevant certification and license to operate the business. Normally, it is not a wonder to find some providers who operate without a license. Such providers are not competent for the job, and you should cease from trusting them with your beloved pet. Generally, those companies that are licensed have the highest rating of quality service.

It is also important for you to make sure you visit the boarding home personally. This will be important because, by just observing the boarding home, you can be able to judge whether the place have the conditions and facilities they claim to have. You will be able to assess the hygiene of the area whether it meets your standards.

In addition to paying a personal visit to the provider home, it is also necessary to engage a provider with series of questions on his activities and animal schedules. This will help you to know the ratio between the working staff and the animal ratio. Some homes have unhealthy balance of staff to animals, and this leads to animal overcrowding which should never be encouraged. The provider should also ensure the animal goes freely outdoors for ones or twice a day.

It is not enough for your pet to be fed well and exercised regularly but also medical attention should not be far away from the facility. This is very important because pets are prone to illness or getting injured and so regular checkups would be appropriate to ensure the comfort of your pet. It is mandatory for the caregiver to have veterinary services within the facility, but referrals to veterinary centers would be equally sufficient.

You should also take note of the price being charged by the caregiver and match it to the quality of services being offered. As a rule of the thumb, price should not be the only driving force when selecting a service provider but quality also should come into play. A service provider that is able to work within your budget and yet provide superior services for your pet would be most appropriate to work with.

Lastly, ensure you get to know the kind of diet your pets will be feeding. Like humans, some animals have allergies to certain foods. They therefore must take a special diet as requested by the vet. You should let the provider understand these terms and also let you know any additional costs that might come up.
