Egyptian cat is a breed of felines with its origin tracing back to Egypt in Africa. Actually, Pharaoh cat is another name used to refer to the feline. The body structure of the Egyptian mau is in a way that they resemble miniature jungle cat. Its eyes are large and green and are centrally located on the face. They have a spotted coat.

The feline was among the most liked species across the world in 2014. Various researches report that the breed was 20th in position with regards to popularity. The origin of Egyptian cats in America is traceable to the kittens that were bred in New York by a Russian Princess. Through the great role played by the princes, the breed became popular in the country.

The feline is medium in size, with the mature females attaining a weight range of 6 and 10 pounds. Males are usually much bigger and heavier than the females. An adult male usually attains a weight range of 10 to 14 pounds. The heads are triangle shaped and proportional to the rest of the body. The ears stand straight on the head, but can assume different positions.

The coat is moderate in length and they shade moderately as well. This is one of the traits that make the breed very preferable to some people. It reduces instances of allergic reactions to owners who have such problems. These cats are available in a wide assortment of colors. Some of the most common colors include smoke, silver, black, and blue.

The maintenance of the pharaoh cats is low as the coats on them are short. Contrary to other breeds, they shed very little hair. Grooming of the coat to maintain its good shape is achieved through occasional maintenance. The benefits earned from grooming include prevented matting, removal of plucked hair, and stimulation of circulation. Weekly grooming is satisfactory. On some occasions, one should hire services of a professional groomer to groom the pet professionally.

Pharaoh cats never have many health matters like other common breeds. For those people who lack much experience in rearing cats, these species is the best choice. Before buying the kitten, it is vital to have it examined for all genetic health conditions. An individual must also ask for a health certificate for each kitten obtained.

Egyptian cat is very sociable not only to human beings, but also to other animals including pets. This strengthens the bonds between the owner and the cat. They also love playing with little children. Children below 6 years should not be left to play with the cat or any other animal. This is because of safety issues. The intelligence level of the species is also high.

Lastly, vocalization is moderate in this breed. Usually, they vocalize when they are in the presence of certain stimuli. As such, to minimize vocalization, one should remove any stimuli that may be causing vocalization. Keeping the cat warm and content makes it to vocalize less. The cat is social and as such, human company is necessary for its wellbeing.
