In the 19th century, Queen Victoria had a strong passion for the breed and she passed the passion to other members of the royal family. When one needs Pug puppies for sale NC offers the perfect location to visit.

Pugs are one of the many dog breeds registered by the ACK (American Kennel Club). It is grouped under the toy category of dogs due to its compact and sturdy body. Originally, it was bred so that it would be a lap dog but this changed since today it thrives as a companion dog.

The origin of the name pug is in Latin language and it means fist. It was named so since its face is thought to look like a human fist. Pugs are one of the three shot-nosed dog breeds known to have been bred in China. The Lion dog and the Pekingese dog are the other two breeds.

These dogs are very small sized and have little weight, which make them toys. Their normal weight is between 14 and 18 pounds, that is for males and females. Since the male and female are normally almost of the same size, it can be very hard to distinguish females from males using weight or size only. Their average height at the shoulders is between 10 and 14 inches.

As mentioned earlier, pug puppies were originally bred as lap dogs although now they are companion dogs. Therefore, hunting, guarding, and retrieving should not be expected from them. They are so much dedicated companion dogs and they normally want to stay on the laps of the owner. They should be expected to try their best to sit on the lap while one is watching a movie or reading a book.

In terms of the temperament, the puppies should be playful and curious in nature. They should be willing to approach and allow themselves to be held. Temperament is however affected by a few factors. These include heredity, socialization, and training. As such, it is important to provide enough socialization to the puppies at an early stage of their lives. Socialization should include exposure to different sights, experiences, people, and sounds.

Pugs are generally healthy dogs even though there are certain health conditions that one should expect in some cases. These include pug dog encephalitis, cheyletiella dermatitis, epilepsy, corneal ulcers, nerve degeneration, dry eye, allergies, staph infection, yeast infection, emi vertebrae, legg-perthes disease, and patellar luxation among others.

Generally, pugs are breeds that are playful and they usually try to make the owner happy. However, they have very low maintenance requirements. That makes them appropriate for older owners. They can also be owned by apartment dwellers due to their small size and how they show relative inactivity when indoors. Exercising them a little daily is important. If there is no entertainment for them, they might probably be too comical and playful.
