You have to place your left arm on the mid part of the body of your pet first. You should be holding the pet against your chest part. You must talk to it softly so you will be able to decrease the fear it has. Some of them are scared on this procedure. Hold the foot using your left hand. You should place a thumb on top of the toe and fingers below the foot.

Each of its nails should be inserted in the clipper so it would be clip just below the quick and it should be in a forty five degree angle. One has to ensure that you can include the dew claws in cutting. If their nails are black, cut those in small parts. Reaching the quick is noticeable when you will be seeing dark spots in the center. One must prevent cutting that portion.

When you accidentally cut it, it might cause bleeding. You should stop that by using some products which are recommended for it. There are styptic powders which you could apply to it. It would stop the bleeding very quick. You should wipe any excess powder from it. You have to let it dry after you have done that. When there is excess powder, it would harden and remove the seal on it.

File each of them so its tip will be soft. You have to check if there are still rough edges. If you placed the powder to one of the nails then do not file that one. It could remove its seal and the bleeding will continue. If they are brittle, you should be filing it more.

There are times that the dew claw would grow into a loop that is circular. You should cut it in the middle section with a cutter which is similar to a clipper. Cut that before the quick. After you have done that, you can now use regular clippers to continue cutting it.

You should inspect them before you would have it clipped. You should take note of your observations. This would help you in discussing it when you visit the veterinarian.
