By Coleen Torres

If there is one thing that dog owners would like to see is that their dogs are healthy and active all the time. Indeed, there is little can be achieved if you do not understand the art of dog walking. The benefits you get by dog in walking are innumerable. Therefore, ensure that you understand this art in detail in order to achieve the desired goals.

If you are able to master the principles that are involved in this art you are likely to see great changes. There are several things that you will need to put into consideration at this particular point in time. To begin with, always be in the lead during these sessions. This helps the dog view you more as a pack leader and follow you accordingly.

The time allocated to these walks is equally important because it affects how effective the walk can be in achieving the desired goals. These walks will help your dog be more flexible during the morning hours, which of course is the best time for walks. If you want to do this professionally, consult with your Houston TX veterinary doctor.

The activity is always bonding process and you must always be in the lead. The psychology behind this is that the dog is supposed to see you as the leader making it easier to control him. If you want to discipline your pet, ensure that he waits for you every time you are cleaning his kennel or untying your shoes. This is only after you have done the rounds of walks

If you really want these walks to be more fruitful you have no option but to reward your dog. These rewards will make your pet more willing to go for the walks, because at the end of the day the pet will know that there is something good in the walk. As a word of advice, do not use a long leash because this will not give you total control over the pet. Short ones are simply the best for dog walks no matter the environment.

Walks have been used to counter obesity and other related health issues that fall in the same range. A 30-minute walk will not only reduce its weight, but also slow down the aging process. This means that your pet will be more active for the better part of its remaining life. Additionally, walks have been known to improve on the immune system of your pet thereby making it resist many diseases.

You are advised to carry some water for your pet during these walks to clean up his body system. However, do not try to walk your dog when there is too much heat as this has a negative impact. All in all, always supervise him to avoid instances where he behaves in unruly manner and bites children when you are out walking.

You are reminded to carry a plastic bag so that you can pick droppings whenever you dog messes the pathways. Also, ensure that the duration of the walks is between 30 minutes to 1 hour. If there are many dogs around, make it a point that the pet can easily be identified. This is definitely the best way to enjoy the company of your pet all morning.
