Discovering Miniature Husky Puppies For Sale

By Kerri Stout

Whether at a pet store, or shelter, it is often fun to look at puppies and other animals. When looking for miniature husky puppies for sale it is often good to visit a breeder. If looking for a pet, shelters are often the best bet. Whereas, when looking for a show dog, or specific breed, breeders are often a better option.

At least one kennel club has been certifying these dogs as a full blooded breed since 1989. Only recently have others started recognizing the breed. As of 1989, the Alaskan Klee Kai has been recognized an independent breed which is qualified to participate in dog shows and agility testing.

There are basically three different sizes within the breed. These sizes are toy, miniature and standard. Weight of these dogs can be anywhere between 5 and 75 pounds. Heights vary depending on the different breeds from which a particular dog's parents were mixed.

Generally heights can range from thirteen inches for a toy to seventeen or eighteen inches for a standard size. Height and weight are generally proportionate leaving the dog with a healthy physique. It is recommended that due to the strength of these dogs that owners use a harness rather than a standard leash for walking in parks, public spaces or other venues.

Like with full size dogs of the breed, these miniature versions have a full thick furry coat. Actually, it is a double coat which can at times be both beautiful and problematic. Beautiful to look at and problematic if the fur is to hide the dog's physique during a show. In many shows, a dog's fur covering the physique during a walk or final stance can often be grounds for disqualification from the contest.

If not socialized properly, this breed can be somewhat "dog aggressive." As this is the case, socialization should begin as soon as the owner brings the dog home. Also, it is not recommended that these breeds be raised with other small animals such as birds, gerbils or rabbits.

When socialized at an early age, the tendency towards hunting can often be curbed. Otherwise, the natural instinct to hunt prey could pose a problem in homes with small animals or children. While often unintentional, puppies and young dogs can often mistake a newborn or toddler for a toy. It is for this reason parents need to supervise when babies are playing with puppies, dogs or other pets.

Unless socialized at an early age, most miniatures are of a shy nature though hunting often remains a primal instinct. While this may come in handy for protection and survival, in other cases it can be dangerous. As all dogs transcended from wolves, it is important to recognize that any dog has the capacity to hunt, kill and defend itself when in danger.

Huskies make great watchdogs. In fact, Alaskan and Siberian breeds are considered some of the best watchdogs in the world. A breed that is loyal and aware is a combination that is hard to find. One that can provide protection and friendship, even more so.
