Australian Labradoodle Therapy Dogs Selection

All those characteristics that make Australian Labradoodles so great family pets make them qualified to become therapy dogs as well. They are obedient, intelligent, sociable and really friendly. Thanks to the fact they are so eager to please, these dogs can learn many different things. Here you can find some interesting things about selecting and training Australian Labradoodle therapy dogs.

Some breeds are better suited for this activity, and some show other interests. Nevertheless, it all depends on your dog's personality. Some dogs are simply born for this. In any case, it is important to find out if your dog has what it takes as soon as possible. The early assessment is really important when it comes to this.

There are basically three types of puppies. The first type is usually restless, curious and quite active. Second type is quite opposite, timid, shy and sensitive. The third type, sometimes called beta-type, is the best one for be trained. Beta puppies are well-balanced, intelligent, fearless and really easy to train. Of course, the first and second types can also be trained, but this might require more time and effort.

Therapy dogs have to stay calm and self confident in various situations. For example, they shouldn't be scared of elevators, loud sounds and similar things. They should get well with other animals, and they must not show any sign of aggression toward other animals or toward people around them. Good breeder will help you recognize this dog type, and make sure the puppy is already socialized at some point.

Although your puppy is still very small and fluffy, you should start teaching him new things as soon as possible. Basic socialization skills, basic rules and other things he needs to know are very good start. Exposing your puppy to other people, different animals, loud voices and similar things is advisable in this stage. New experiences and his way of dealing with different situations will shape your dogs character.

You selected puppy needs a pack leader, that's simply in dog's nature. If you don't allow that he sits on the sofa, you shouldn't allow it some other day. When you make certain rules, don't change them. Your dog won't be able to understand the rules if you change them every once in a while. Your puppy is adorable little thing, but you need to stay consistent. Gentle, but consistent.

Confident, well-trained and balanced puppy will become a great therapy dog one day. It takes some time and patience, but you'll be very proud when you see the final results. Dogs are simply amazing beings and they live to please their owners. These characteristics make them perfect for this job, for so many reasons.

The fact is that these special therapies provide surprisingly good results. If you and your furry friend can help people to cope with their difficulties, this really is an admirable thing to do. When you puppy become an adult dog, with at least one year of age, he can be tested. If he proves that he is adequately trained, he will get certified and allowed to participate in dog assisted therapies.
