Dog Trivia & Information

By Garrett McMahan

Dogs are the loyal pets and very loving with their human companions, and they are also an inquisitive type of animal. Even if you have enjoyed owning many animal companions, you might be unaware of some of the following bits of trivia.

Americans are dog lovers. The fact is that the United States has the largest domesticated dog population the world over. This is a dog and human bond that is very strong that there are even about a million dogs that are named as beneficiaries by owners in their will left behind.

For several years, there is a myth circulating that dogs see only in the colors black and white. Scientists meanwhile have found out that dogs actually see in colors to some extent. The human eyes have three cones and dogs only have two. This can mean then that they see colors like blue and yellow, but for the other colors, they may not be able to distinguish these. Your dogs may not be able to see the rainbow colors that you see, but they can beat people in the dark because dogs can see better at night.

As we all know, dogs actually have a more advanced sense of hearing than humans. Dogs are capable of hearing sounds in frequencies that human ear simply cannot hear. However, it is interesting to note that when a dog is born, it is functionally deaf, and its ear canals actually are closed. It takes a few weeks before puppies develop enough to be able to hear, as well as see.

They can understand a variety of commands, either in verbal form or through gestures, although they may not be able to speak our language. They can learn more than 200 gestures and also verbal commands, and this is also a fact. You may feel that your dog is not capable of learning obedience skills, and this you may think when you try training your dog. The approach that you use can be a big factor however. If you use a comprehensive program such as The Dog's Way, you will know that obedience training can be done, and this when you start training your dog.

This is a program of dog training DVDs that provide owners with several ways and easy lessons for them to understand their pets better and also teach them various skills like the dog leash training. You are also able to train your dog to come when called and not run away and also other commands like sit, stay, lying down and many others. Also another interesting fact is that a well-trained and obedient dog usually will live longer. You will definitely enjoy your dog more if he or she feels safe, is happy, and also an obedient companion.
