The French Bulldog stands among the small breeds of domestic dogs currently in the world. The breed came up as a result of crossbreeding between local ratters in Paris and bulldog ancestors that were imported from England into Paris. The breed first existed in England and France in the 1800s. Since then, their popularity has grown a lot in the whole world, particularly in the US, UK, and France. As such, when one is need of French Bulldogs for sale Ohio offers one of the best location to pay a visit.

The French bulldog is also referred to as frenchie in the US and UK. This bulldog descended directly from dogs of the Mollossians, a tribe in the ancient Greek. Phoenicians played a major role in spreading them across the world. This dogs were initially owned by lace workers who lived in Nottingham. When the Industrial Revolution set in, the workers moved out and settled in France, bringing with them their pet dogs.

The popularity of the Frenchie grew a lot in France and people imported many of them from England. At the end of 1860, only a few of these bulldogs remained in England while their popularity continued to rise in France. Following their popularity, they were given a French name. They were sought by society ladies, prostitutes, French writers, artists, and fashion designers. Further development made the breed to look very different from the original bulldog.

Standards set by breed clubs require French bulldogs to have a small-medium structure, heavy bone, and smooth coats. They should be muscular, very active, and compactly built. Only specific colors are acceptable in breed standards. These colors are brindle, white, fawn, and tan. The most commonly occurring color is brindle and then fawn. Breed clubs do not accept any other colors and patterns.

Certain colors are associated with certain health problems that should not be found in Frenchies. This is the reason other colors are rejected by breed clubs. For example, alopecia is often associated with blue coloration. The shoulders and heads are wrinkled with the soft, smoothly falling skin. The brightness of their short coat is moderate.

The frenchies are good companion dogs and they need close human contact. Their exercise needs are fairly minimal, but they must be walked daily over short distances. They tend to sit with their hind legs spread out, something that have earned them the name clown dog or frog dog. They are very suitable for people who live in apartments because they are very calm.

This bulldog rarely barks. However, it may bark if it needs attention from the owner. It is affectionate and patient with owners, particularly kids. Females tend to be protective to children. Coexistence with other pets and dogs can only happen if proper introductions are made.

On average, the breed can live for 8 to 10 years. They are most affected by heat because of their compacted airways and bulkiness which makes temperature regulation very poor. For that reason, one should ensure that they are protected from extreme temperature conditions.
