This breed was saved by the Russian princess Natalie who started breeding them from a single female.

The body is elongated with moderate weight. An average cat will weigh 6 pounds to 14 pounds. When compared to females, male cats are bigger in size.

In terms of personality, the cat has a nice one. The show the owner that they are happy by vocalizing. They form strong bonds with owners and enjoy being cuddled. The breed shows off its hunting prowess and likes playing games. While in the house, it will climb, perch, and stretch around. It is one of the breeds of cats that love playing with water. It moves near water sources and dips its paws into them.

Egyptian Mau suffers from a number of medical conditions, which are both genetic and non-genetic. However, in general, they are healthy animals that are not prone to many health problems. However, when buying a kitten, it is important to understand the family line since this breed suffers from certain genetic diseases. It is best to have the kitten tested for genetic disorders before buying. Most mixed-breed and pedigreed cats suffer from medical conditions.

It is simple to care for the cat. A weekly combing or brushing is enough for good hygiene. Dead hair is removed by brushing besides distributing skin oils. The breed rarely needs to be bathed. Proper dental care through daily brushing keep periodontal disease from developing. Nails may also lose aesthetic appeal hence must be trimmed regularly.

Any discharge in the eyes should be removed by wiping using a soft, damp piece of cloth. When wiping the eyes, the corners should be changed to avoid spreading disease in case of any. A mixture of warm water and cider vinegar can be used to clean dirty eyes. Cotton swaps may damage ear interiors hence must be avoided.

This breed is one the best family pets one can hope for. It is advisable to keep it indoors so that it is safe from animal attacks and diseases from other cats. The level of co-existence with children, dogs, and other pets is good. Co-existence can be enhanced through more socialization.
