Longmont CO Puppy Training Advice

By Rebecca Johnson

When you first bring your puppy home, you will find it to be so incredibly adorable. However, you will soon find out that Longmont CO puppy training is a necessity. This is something that is ongoing, and one can't avoid this. Many people procrastinate with this, but it is simply like bringing up kids. When you neglect your children, you will find that there are problems that will crop up.

Of course, one has to find the balance. A lot of owners are too pushy when they get a new puppy. Remember that they are making a new adjustment to their surroundings. At this stage, they will need a lot of love and care. It is important that you make them feel at home, especially in the beginning. As time goes by, you can enforce more discipline, but there are ways in going about this.

There are various ways of introducing discipline into the life of a young dog. There are also certain things that one should avoid. For example, one should never hit a puppy. This is out of the question because it will promote aggression. You will also find that you will have problems when you make a puppy sniff the mess that they have made.

Praise them when they have done a good job. Give them a treat when they have gone the extra mile. This will be reinforced in their brain. However, don't overdo the treats. These should be reserved for special occasions. Don't raise your voice so loudly so that they are going to become afraid, but make sure that they know the difference between right and wrong.

You need to make sure that your puppy is going to the vet on a regular basis. They will need a check up from time to time. This is especially important at this young age because there are a lot of injections that they need. The vet can also give you advice about various training classes, should you feel that this is an option. It is a way in which you are able to meet other dog owners.

Some dogs will bark a lot, and this can obviously be frustrating and annoying, especially when it carries on for no reason at all. One needs to reprimand them when they are barking without a cause. They need to be rewarded for barking when there is a reason in the initial stages.

It is important that you help them to behave in the right way by taking them to a field, for example where they can run around and play with other dogs. You need to keep an eye out for when there is rough play that is too excessive. Small kids need to be invited to the home when the puppy is still small so it learns how to interact with them.

Obviously you will want your pup to have a fair amount of exercise. However, in the beginning, they will also need to sleep a lot. You have to introduce this gradually with short walks in the beginning. Take them on daily walks so they start to get used to it. Make sure you walk in front of the young dog so that it knows who is boss.
