How To Pick The Best AKC Lab Breeders

By Diane Snyder

If you want a good dog, then you must ensure that you buy the puppy from a reputable seller. So, the main question remains how to identify a good breeding facility. If you do not have adequate information about the breed, then you'll have to rely much on the information provided to you by the seller. Below are some tips to help you choose the best AKC Lab Breeders for the best dogs.

First, ensure that you are informed about the breed and the breeding process required. Not all sellers are the same. Therefore, you should not expect that any certified breeder you come across will provide you with the best quality dogs. Having the right information will help you make a better decision.

Find a seller who specializes in a particular breed. If you're looking for Labrador retriever puppies, then buy from a seller who only breeds that particular kind. This will ensure that they have in-depth knowledge about the breed and they can provide the best quality. Facilities that handle more than three types of breeds are likely to face difficulties in the breeding process unless they have quality management.

Ensure that the facility has a certificate for kennel club membership. Regardless of how organized the facility is, you should not assume that they offer pedigree dogs. Therefore, you should check that they are indeed certified by the local kennel club. This ensures that they have stringent rules to follow for the breeding and therefore they are trustworthy.

Check the deworming schedule before buying. Puppies need to be dewormed before they are sold. This is to enhance their health and give them better chances of survival. In addition, there will not be a health risk to other dogs in the neighborhood. During the early weeks, puppies are prone to worms and therefore deworming is necessary.

The puppy should also be vaccinated. Therefore, you should ask for evidence of vaccination and what type of vaccines have been provided. It is important that the vaccines for critical dog diseases such as Parvo, influenza, distemper, hepatitis, lept o, Corona, and Bordetella are provided before the puppies are sold. This will ensure that they are safe when you bring them home.

Inquire about the weaning process. Some breeders are known to force weaning on puppies. This is to allow them to become independent early so that the mother can breed again. A good seller should allow the puppies to suckle naturally until their mother weans them off. This should take about 2 months.

Check the booking requirements in advance. Many facilities will insist that you take the pups when they are at least 8 weeks old. This might require booking in advance even before the litter is born. However, you should check the litter as soon as it arrives so that you can pick the best puppy for yourself.

Ask if there's a buyback policy. Sometimes, you may buy a puppy but soon realize that you don't want it. If there's nowhere you can take it, then it might end up in the streets. Therefore, some sellers would take back the puppy within a given period of time. Before buying, you should, therefore, ask if they have such a policy.
